Oh, and another thing I like

There are several pencil sharpeners affixed to the walls in my new house. I don't know why. I keep finding them inside of cupboards and closets. This one is at the very top of the stairwell, which you can see if you click here. The original owner of the house was very handy, and there are built-in things in all kinds of unlikely places. Also secret compartments and hidden panels that swing open if you press on the right spot. I'm going to go all Nancy Drew on youall.

That stairwell's kind of spooky looking.

I don't know why, but it reminds me of some pictures I've seen of the Winchester Mansion.

Hey, wait a minute! Is it possible that your house was once owned by the inventor of, like, the mechanical pencil or something? And maybe when he died his mad wife came to believe that the spirits of plain old wooden pencils that had been replaced by her husband's mechanical monstrosities had come back to take their revenge on her, so she had pencil sharpeners installed at several especially "active" spots about the house to appease or confuse them?

Wow!

Be careful when you're poking around, Alpha. Watch yer back, and carry PLENTY of erasers.

And stay away from ink pens.

I'm weird.

ha! You know, that hadn't occurred to me. I generally use mechanical pencils, but I found a huge pile of unsharpened wooden pencils (like 40 or so of them) in my art supply bins and I'm starting to feel like it's a bizarre kind of destiny to be moving into a house full of pencil sharpeners.

There's only one problem with your theory though, I happen to know that the wife died first. Perhaps it was her ghost he was trying to appease or perhaps defy with all the pencil sharpeners. Judging from all the other stuff in the house, though, I think that he was just a guy who liked to design things and make notes to himself and didn't want to have to wander all over creation to find a pencil sharpener. Which of course is why I myself like to use mechanical pencils: I can never find a pencil sharpener when I need one. Well, those days are gone!

Maybe the mechanical pencil was invented by a woman.

That is fantastic.

So do you own this house, or is it another rental?
