Shoeblogging: RocketDog v. DestructoDog

Of course the dog won. I'm pretty good about not leaving shoes out where Ruby can reach them, but apparently we've reached a milestone in that "where Ruby can reach them" now includes the tops of all the tables and dressers. Oh, and the Tab cartons; she loves to rip those up.

I can't get too upset about something that is really my own fault. I should have realized it was only a matter of time before she noticed that everything cool and chewable was up on a dresser or a table. But damn, they were my favorite pair of sparkly RocketDog flip-flops. And now I keep stepping on the little metal thingys and the rhinestones that she pulled so neatly off the shoes.

Wasn't it me who said that about not wanting a puppy? I think this kind of thing is why. But isn't she cute?

Oh, my goodness! What a face!

It must be really hard to be mad at that face, sparkly flipflops or not. Is it possible to train a puppy not to do this, or do you just have to wait it out?

There's a little bit of both involved -- mostly waiting it out. A well-behaved dog who is not bored doesn't generally do much destructive chewing, once they're past the rebellious, destructive phase. But the main thing is not to tempt them by leaving your shoes in an accessible spot. Or your books. Or anything, really, other than cardboard boxes and chew toys.
