Friday Random 10: Another Tom Waits edition

  1. "Baby I Can't Please You" Sam Phillips (Martinis & Bikinis)
  2. "Light as the Breeze" Leonard Cohen" (The Future)
  3. "There's a Story in Your Voice" Elvis Costello w/Lucinda Williams (The Delivery Man)
  4. "Ol' 55" Tom Waits (Early Years vol 2)
  5. "Rock Island Line" Little Richard w/Fishbone (A Vision Shared)
  6. "Brrrlak!" Zap Mama (Adventures in Afropea)
  7. "Awara Hoon" 3 Mustaphas 3 (Heart of Uncle)
  8. "Seguro Que Hell Yes" Flaco Jimenez (Flaco Jimenez)
  9. "Sins of My Father" Tom Waits (Real Gone)
  10. "Seranata Nortena" Los Lobos (How Will the Wolf Survive?)
How's this for a little strange? A while back I came across this list of Tom Wait's 20 most cherished albums of all time (with nine extra listed here). I think it's kind of interesting that all but of two of the songs on today's random list are either TW himself or one of the artists mentioned in his lists (Sam Phillips, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Little Richard doing a Leadbelly tune, and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos). It's an interesting list, and really does give you a little peek into the mind of a genius; it's definitely not a 'Desert Island Ten' kind of a thing, but you can certainly see where they guy's coming from.

[And thanks to the lovely Miss Susan at SG for the link in the first place].
