All about me: Some test results
I've noticed links to these goofy online quizzes at a lot of people's blogs. I love taking them, for one thing, and one of the things I get to do at my job from time to time is design questionnaires and other forms, so I have a, you know, professional interest in them as well.
The first one I took, because I followed Magpie's link initially, was the What Kind of American English Do You Speak? test and I was a little surprised by the results:
- 55% General American English
- 25% Yankee
- 15% Upper Midwestern
- 5% Dixie
- 0% Midwestern
But anyway, the test is on one of those sites with a bunch of reader-submitted quizzes, many of which are just plain dumb, in my opinion, but all the same I took a bunch of others, and found that my Inner European is Dutch ("Open-minded and tolerant, you're up for just about anything"), which pleased me; my Brain is 46.67% Female & 53.33% Male, which is apparently a "healthy mix," although I'm very much more right-brained than left-brained for what that's worth. My favorite quiz , though, was the What Breed of Puppy Are You? test. I'm a German Shepherd puppy: "Intelligent, quick witted, and a bit aggressive. You've got the jaw power to take a bite out of anyone you choose."
So now you know.

My Linguistic Profile:
70% General American English
10% Upper Midwestern
10% Yankee
5% Dixie
5% Midwestern
Anyone else use supper and dinner interchangeably?
My family is based in Ohio and Indiana, so that may explain the slight UpperMidwestern dialect. Yankee? *shrug* Intermingling. I'm mainly the native Coloradan i.e. not much traceable.
I'm also a schizotypal 93.33% male Frenchy!
all these french people visiting! mon dieu!
I can't figure out what people around here (n-central north carolina), supper or dinner. I've asked a few natives, but they aren't sure what's "correct." The best I can figure is if you eat at home it's supper but if you go out, it's dinner. Which is more or less the same, now that I think about it, as where I grew up (Minneapolis).
I was afraid to do the psych disorder quiz - some things I just don't wanna know.
Alphabitch, hello, you are my sister so can I just call you bitch for short? My linguistic profile is
70% General American English
15% Yankee
10% Upper Midwestern
I am not sure how we both ended up speakin' the yankee but what concerns me is my comparitively high upper midwestern count, I sound 5% more like the cast of Fargo than you do - no wonder mom likes you better.
